HomeMy WebLinkAbout12 Mayor to Appoint for Proclamation RvwSTAFF REPORT CITY OF PALM DESERT CITY COUNCIL DEPARTMENT MEETING DATE: May 27 , 2021 PREPARED BY : Niamh Ortega, Acting Deputy City Clerk REQUEST: Authorize Mayor to appoint two Councilmembers to work with the Public Information Officer and City Attorney to review current practices of issuance of City proclamations. Recommendation By Minute Motion, authorize the Mayor to appoint two members of the City Council to work with the Public Information Officer and City Attorney to review current practices of issuance of City proclamations and draft a policy achieving greater clarity for consideration at a future Council meeting. Background Agreement was expressed at the May 13, 2021 City Council meeting that a review of current practices of City proclamation issuance will enhance Council process. Mayor Kelly currently has four proclamations in process : in honor of Monsignor Lincoln's retirement and contributions to the community; in honor of our Palm Desert 2021 senior graduates and their counselors; recognition of Pride Month ; and reiteration of the principles in Resolution No . 2018-09 in light of rising anti-Semitism . She has committed to refrain from adding any proclamations to the queue while the review is pending . Fiscal Analysis There is no fiscal impact associated with this action . LEGAL REVIEW DEPT.
