C. MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS
Deputy Director of Development Services, Eric Ceja, advised Commissioners in
attendance that the City Council has requested the ARC look at design standards
for dining decks in the public right of way such as Highway 111 and EI Paseo. The
City is working with an Architect team to establish the design guidelines which will
be brought before the Commission for review and adoption. The intention being
these adopted guidelines could be used for future requests from restauranteurs
interested in building a dining deck and would allow approval of these requests by
City staff.
In response to inquiry by Commissioner McAuliffe, Mr. Ceja stated at this time the
dining decks are meant to be temporary until guidelines from Alcohol and
Beverage Control (ABC) and state guidelines for the Health Department have more
certainty. Upon inquiry by Vice Chair Lambell, Mr. Ceja advised the City is working
with the Architectural firm, Prest, Vuksic and noted this firm was working with the
City prior to the pandemic on items related to this request. Once the design
guidelines are established they will be provided to the ARC for comments and/or
adoption.
