REQUEST: Approval of the 2021 Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade
Recommendation
By Minute Motion, approve:
1. The Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade scheduled for Sunday, October 31, 2021;
2. Road closures on El Paseo between Highway 74 and Portola Avenue;
3. Consumption/possession of alcoholic beverages on public property pursuant to
Palm Desert Municipal Code 9.58.040; and
4. Sponsorship of in-kind Public Works services.
Strategic Plan Objective
Approval of the 2021 Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade would help address the following
priorities as specified in the 2013-2033 Strategic Plan, Envision Palm Desert – Forward
Together:
− Economic Development Priority 3: Create and attract entertainment and events to
enhance and expand the Palm Desert economy and lifestyle.
− Parks and Recreation Priority 3: Make recreational and exercise opportunities
available in all public spaces.
− Tourism and Marketing Priority 2: Grow existing events and develop new events
to enhance the desirability of Palm Desert as a year round destination.
Background Analysis
The 57th annual Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade, is scheduled to take place on Sunday,
October 31, 2021. This year’s theme is “Masquerade Parade.” The parade will kick off at
noon and includes a number of pre-parade activities such as, a classic car show, a beer
garden, kids’ zone, food trucks, and live music entertainment.
With regard to road closures, El Paseo will be closed from Portola to Highway 74 start at
5am. The parade route will continue to be from Portola to Sage Lane and all closures will
open as soon as safely possible once the parade ends.

The City's annual Golf Cart Parade sponsorship in the amount of $10,000 was previously
approved by the City Council as part the FY 2021/2022 special events and sponsorships
budget at the meeting of June 24, 2021. Consideration of in-kind services through
handling traffic control and road closures for the event was presented during the budget
study session. Additionally , City staff has recommended the tradition of constructing a
City float entry for the parade. Funding for the City's float construction in the amount of
$5 ,000 was also previously approved by the City Council as part of the FY 2021/2022
special events and sponsorships budget at the meeting of June 24, 2021 .
