Indio, CA- On the evening of November 23, 2019 the Riverside County
Fairground's Taj Mahal Building was transformed into a scene out of 1,001
Arabian Nights. The coronation process began six weeks ago with 41 contestants
from across Riverside County vying for scholarship money. Judges narrowed it
down to twelve talented and accomplished young ladies that competed in three
question and answer rounds for the crowns of Queen Scheherazade, Princess
❑unyazade and Princess Jasmine. Queen Scheherazade receives a $3,500
scholarship to the school of her choice, while each princess receives $2,000. The
Queen & her Court will act as goodwill ambassadors for the 2020 Riverside
County Fair & National Date Festival that runs February 14-23.
Crowned Queen Scheherazade was Kayley Serrano. Serrano is an alumni of La
Quinta High School and Riverside Community College, and is currently a junior at
California State University San Bernardino. Her major is Communication — Mass
Media. Kayley plans on pursuing a career as a news broadcaster here in the
Coachella Valley. In 2016 & 2017, Kayley competed at the Riverside County Fair
& National Date Festival's Magic Carpet Music Scholarship Competition in the
vocal category, winning both times.
Alexandria Gooray is a senior at Centennial High School in Corona. She has
over 950 hours of community service with Maranatha International, Key Club and
International Baccalaureate. She is a national competitor for Future Business
Leaders of America and captain of her school's swim team.
Crowned Princess Jasmine was Analise Ortega who is a senior at Shadow Hills
High School in Indio. Analise volunteers in the community and serves as her
school's class president. She is also captain of her school's varsity soccer team.
We look forward to having them represent the 2020 Riverside County Fair &
National Date Festival. Congratulations, ladies!

Early storytellers of Baghdad say that there was once a jealous king named Shahriyar, who
dearly loved his beautiful wife. But, unfortunately, he discovered that she was unfaithful. So he
promptly had her beheaded.
The King vowed he would remarry and the morning following his wedding night his bride
would be slain.
The task of finding the King a new wife each day was turned over to the Grand Vizier (Chief of
Police). It so happened that the Vizier was the father of two of the most beautiful women in the
land-Scheherazade and ❑unyazade. 5hocked at what was happening to her sister citizens,
Scheherazade begged her father to take her as a bride to the king. At first the Vizier refused,
but 5cheherazade argued that eventually her time would come.
And so it was, that the king met "5cheherazade", a comedian and great storyteller.
On their wedding night Scheherazade started the Tale of 1001 Nights, but she was unable to
HOME finish it. Sh"curni6edrAo do so the next evening. Intensely isTten&slimi, the king agreed..

And so it went for 1001 nights, until the King fell deeply in love with Scheherazade and they
lived happiiy ever after.
