HomeMy WebLinkAboutPresentation - Fire Personnel Recognition J. Hinkle, K. Brown, and T. ThompsonWhereas, on the morning of December 28, 2019, Fire Engine 55 was dispatched to a reported structure fire at the California Villas in the City of Palm Desert; the Perris Emergency Command Center advised responding units that 911 dispatchers were on the phone with a man trapped by the apartment fire; and Whereas, Firefighters Kevin Brown and Travis Thompson immediately entered the apartment and were later met by Fire Captain James Hinkle; they encountered zero visibility with extreme heat, and located an entrapped civilian in his bedroom; and Whereas, while removing the entrapped civilian, they became entangled in the hallway with fallen debris. Firefighter Kevin Brown selflessly guarded the victim from radiant and convective heat, causing catastrophic damage to his gear and burns to his elbow and arm; and Whereas, firefighters successfully removed the entrapped civilian to safety, demonstrating the sacrifices they and all public servants may encounter every day for the safety and well-being of their communities; and Whereas, all first responders that day deserve meritorious recognition for their selfless compassion and prompt response, serving as a shining example of dedicated commitment to service and lifesaving. Now, Therefore, I, Gina Nestande, Mayor of the City of Palm Desert, California, along with the entire City Council, do hereby recognize the bravery and dedication of all first responders that day, and especially: Fire Captain James Hinkle Firefighter Kevin Brown Firefighter Travis Thompson In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and have caused the Official Seal of the City of Palm Desert, California, to be affixed this 23rd day of January, 2020.
