Recommendation
By Minute Motion, receive and file.
Background
The City of Palm Desert and Indian Wells have contracted for a shared Emergency
Services Coordinator, via a contract with the Riverside County Emergency Management
Department. This position oversees many areas including, but not limited to, emergency
planning, staff training, community outreach, coordinating exercises, grant
management, emergency response, and post-event recovery. The attached report
provides details on the Coordinator's activities for the month. of February'2020.
Fiscal Analysis
No fiscal impact is associated with this item. Please note that for FY 2019/20, the City
budgeted $78 ,019 for its share of these contracted services .Staff also pursues an
annual Federal matching grant to offset a portion of these costs.

Completed a 'media interview with KESQ regarding the- City of Palm Desert's Brightside

.Ensured :the. ZOLL AED Plus at the Portola Community Center was serviced properly
and placed back into service following .its use during an accident
o Preparing for. the March :7th Wildflower :and.Public Safety Fair at Civic Center Parkin
conjunction with Fire and Law partners

o Continuing to :attend conference: calls with Operational Area partners related to. the
Coronavirus :(CO VID-1 9 situation
o Completed the procurement of emergency water to be used by City staff in the event of
a significant disaster
o Attended .the County Operational Area Planning Commission on behalf of the City::of
Palm Desert
o Completed a. "Cultural Humility in Disasters "training course
Organized a joint FEMA/:Texas A&M university. extension . training for City, of:Palm,
Desert senior officials
o Participated in the City of Palm Desert. Safety Committee meeting to discuss a variety of
safety initiatives including the recent COVID-19-'situation
Attended: a: security. planning : meeting in advance of the.: Palm Desert Fashion.
Show/Food & Wine event
o Completed Mobile Field Hospital. training provided by the California Emergency Medical
Services Authority
o Coordinated with Risk Management:: regarding FEMA: Public Assistance financial

o• Composed an: EOC Action: Plan for the Swing N' Hops event
Shared a CPR/AED/First..Aid training opportunity with-City-staff
o Invited senior staff.to:attend an EO`C overview training session
o Provided: information to-Code and Housing related to Homelessness-
o Installed :6 whiteboard. in the City's EOC and procured an ICS org, chart for future
installation
