REQUEST: Approval of the LiveWell Festival's Run of the Desert Charities
Recommendation
By Minute Motion:
1. Approve of the LiveWell Festival's Run of the Desert Charities
scheduled for Saturday, May 18, 2019 to take place in Civic Center
Park; and
2. Approve Temporary waiver of Palm Desert Municipal Code (PDMC)
sections:
a: 11.01.140 (Amplified Sound in City Parks); and
b. 11.01.080.0 (Placement of Advertising Signage in City Parks); and
c. 11.01.080 Q (Vendor Sales in City Parks);
Strategic Plan Obiective
Approval of the LiveWell Festival's Run of the Desert Charities would help address the
following priorities outlined in the 2013/2033 Strategic Plan, Envision Palm Desert —
Forward Together.
• Economic Development Priority 3: Create and attract entertainment and events
to enhance and expand the Palm Desert economy and lifestyle.
• Parks and Recreation Priority 3: Make recreational and exercise opportunities
available in all public spaces.
• Tourism and Marketing Priority 2` Grow existing events and develop new events
to enhance the desirability of Palm Desert as a year-round destination.
Background Analysis
The LiveWell Festival's Run of the Desert Charities, scheduled for Saturday, May 18,
2019, will involve 40-70 of the Desert's charities in a 5K run -walk to raise funds and
awareness for their respective causes. The 5K would be entirely in Civic Center Park
and on the Park sidewalks, thus no road closures would be necessary. There will be live
music, a blood drive, a food drive and pet adoptions taking place at the event. The
event will also have charity vendor tents and food trucks. The only fee associated with
this event is to participate in the run -walk. All other elements of the event are free to the
public.

Approval of the LiveWell Festival's Run of the Desert Charities
This is a first time event that is geared towards raising funds and bringing awareness to
different charities throughout the Coachella Valley.
