MINUTES of the January 4, 2015, Palm Desert Youth Committee meeting Upon motion by Member Seiberg, second by Member Wood, and a 11-0-3 vote of the Youth Committee (AYES: Brossfield, Chaplin, Dan, Goldstone, Hutchinson, Kim, Olson, Sanford, Schmidman, Seiberg, and Wood; NOES: None; ABSTENTIONS: None; ABSENT: Ahmad, Sandoval-Heglund, and Shaw), the January 4, 2015, Minutes were approved as presented. VI. NEW BUSINESS A. APPOINTMENT of Member to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and provide an update on Youth Committee activities at the February 25, 2016, City Council Meeting. Action: No member appointed VII. OLD BUSINESS None VIII. CONTINUED BUSINESS None IX. REPORTS AND REMARKS A. COUNCIL MEMBERS The General Plan update will be available for review and comment on the City's website. Councilmember Harnik asked the Youth Committee members to review the Southern California Association of Governments' (SCAG) Regional Transportation Plan/Sustainable Communities Strategy (2016 RTP/SCS). Staff will send a link to the Committee. B. STAFF No reports f� 2 MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE C. COMMITTEE MEMBERS 1. Events a. The Galen 5K Color Run — January 9, 2016 JANUARY 4, 2015 Volunteers for the race were given waivers for their parents to sign and submit on race day. b. PDCMS Afterschool Program Presentation — January 21, 2016 Chair Hutchinson will attend presentation. c. City Council Presentation — January 28, 2016 Member Sanford confirmed that she will make the presentation to City Council. d. Anti -Bullying Presentation — date to be determined Staff will schedule a date for February t, e. Car Wash — date to be determined Staff has contacted the Riverside County Youth Commission to see if they are interested in participating and will report back to the committee when she receives a response. f. MINUTES of the January 4, 2016, Palm Desert Youth Committee meeting Upon motion by Member Wood, second by Member Seiberg, and a 12-0-3 vote of the Youth Committee (AYES: Brossfield, Chaplin, Dan, Goldstone, Hutchinson, C. Kim, L. Kim, Olson, Sanford, Seiberg, Shaw, and Wood; NOES: None; ABSTENTIONS: None; ABSENT: Ahmad, Sandoval-Heglund and Schmidman), the January 4, 2016, Minutes were approved as presented. VI. NEW BUSINESS A. APPOINTMENT of Member to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and provide an update on Youth Committee activities at the February 25, 2016, City Council Meeting. Upon consensus by the Committee, Member Dan was appointed to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and provide an update on Youth Committee activities at the Q February 25, 2016 City Council Meeting. VII. COUNCIL MEMBERS Regional Transportation Plan — Council Member Harnik reminded the Youth Committee members to review the Southern California Association of Governments' (SCAG) Regional Transportation Plan/Sustainable Communities Strategy (2016 RTP/SCS). 2 MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE FEBRUARY 1, 2016 General Plan Update — Asking for feedback. PDCMS Afterschool Program Presentation - January 21, 2016 Chair Hutchinson presented the Youth Committee and a few students were interested in joining. b. City Council Presentation — January 28, 2016 Event went well. c. Anti -Bullying Presentation Committee recommended this event to take place on a Monday after school. d. Senior Inspiration Awards - March 25, 2016 Sign-up sheet was circulated. e. Swing N' Hops Street Party — February 6, 2016 Feedback on the event was shared by Chair Hutchinson. b. City Council Presentation — February 25, 2016 No report c. Senior Inspiration Awards — March 25, 2016 Sign-up sheet was circulated. d. Anti -Bullying School Presentation — March or April — date TBD A presentation will be made to Carter Elementary School on March 21, 2016 and Sacred Heart Catholic School on April 11, 2016. e. MINUTES of the May 2, 2016, Palm Desert Youth Committee meeting Upon consensus by the Committee, the May 2, 2016, Minutes were approved as presented. J 2 MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE SEPTEMBER 12, 2016 VI. NEW BUSINESS A. ELECTION of Chair for the 2016/17 School Year Upon a motion by Member Chang, second by Member Wood and carried by a unanimous vote by the Youth Committee, Member Dan was elected to serve as Youth Committee Chair for the 2016/17 school year. B. ELECTION of Vice -Chair for the 2016/17 School Year Upon Ms. Glickman's request for self nominations for the office of Youth Committee Vice -Chair for the 2016/17 school year, Members L. Kim, C. Kim, Johnson and Wood declared their candidacy and gave statements of qualification. Upon a motion by Member Berenbaum, second by Member Dan, and carried by a 5- 0-4 vote by the Youth Committee, Member Johnson was elected to serve as Youth Committee Vice -Chair for the 2016/17 school year. C. APPOINTMENT of Member to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and provide an update on Youth Committee activities at the September 22, 2016, City Council Meeting. Upon consensus by the Committee, Member Johnson was appointed to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and provide an update on Youth Committee activities at the September 22, 2016 City Council Meeting. D. CONSIDERATION of Activities for the 206/17 School Year Ms. Glickman presented a list of potential activities (past and future) for the committee members to review and discuss at their October meeting. A sustainability sub -committee was formed to include Members Dan, Johnson, C. Kim, L. Kim, Wood, and visitors Ms. Galvin, Ms. Schwartz, and Ms. Frary. E. CONSIDERATION of Subcommittee Appointments and Committee / Commission Liaisons for the 2016/17 School Year Ms. Glickman asked the members to consider applying as liaisons for other City standing committees/commissions. Attendance Sheets — Ms. Glickman handed out attendance tracking sheets for members to track their volunteer hours throughout the year so the information can be used for future letters of recommendation. Events The Committee discussed possible activities for 2016/2017 and will investigate the following: 2 C MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE OCTOBER 10, 2016 A series of senior Youth Committee tech days; Movie Night in the park or possibly on San Pablo Avenue; Block party/picnic in Civic Center Park with bands and a movie; One elementary school event; Open Mic event with the Coachella Valley Art Scene; and, Consider tech days instead of a fundraiser 2.
