Recommendation By Minute Motion, approve the purchase of 160,000 pounds of grass seed from Simplot Partners of Palm Desert, California, in the amount of $169,428.40. Funds are available in General Fund Account No. 1104610-4332001, R/M Civic Center Park, 1104610-4337100, R/M Tri-Cities Sport Facility, 1104611-4332001, R/M Parks, 1104614-4337001, R/M Medians, and 2764374-4332100, R/M Haystack for the City's portion, and the Desert Willow Corporation will fund the balance. Strateqic Plan Obiective The City of Palm Desert and Desert Willow Golf Resort provide some of the City's premier recreational facilities. By preserving and enhancing its facilities, the City furthers its goals of continuing to provide the high quality of life our residents and visitors expect by providing recreational and exercise opportunities in all public spaces. Background Analvsis The City of Palm Desert and Desert Willow Golf Resort purchase grass seed on an annual basis for overseeding City parks, sports fields, and Desert Willow golf course. The City and Desert Willow combine their seed orders in order to maximize cost savings. On June 2 and June 8, 2019, the City Clerk advertised and called for bids for the purchase of the 160,000 pounds of grass seed. Sealed bids were opened and read aloud on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. with the following results: Contractor 1 Simplot Partners 2 Foster -Gardner, Inc. 2 Nutrient Solutions 4 Site One Landscape Location Price Palm Desert, CA $169,428.40 Coachella, CA $178,028.86 San Jacinto, CA $185,028.30 Palm Desert, CA $217,155.04 July 11, 2019 - Staff Report Award Annual Seed Order to Simplot Partners Page 2 of 2 Staff has reviewed the lowest bidder's bid document, and found that the bid is accurate and meets the specified requirements. This year the City will use 32,000 pounds of the grass seed for a total of $32,127.20, including tax and shipping. Desert Willow Golf Resort will use the remaining seed (128,000 pounds).
