HomeMy WebLinkAboutPrsntatn - 25 Yrs CA Desert Protection ActWhereas, the California Desert Protection Act was first signed in 1994, which created the Mojave National Preserve, Joshua Tree National Park and Death Valley National Park, as well as many others; and Whereas, the California Desert Protection Act catalyzed efforts to protect natural areas and military installations through subsequent legislative and administrative efforts and created a sustainable tourist economy; and Whereas, the California Desert Protection Act safeguards precious groundwater and their watersheds to support the desert residents, military missions, and fragile desert ecosystem; and Whereas, the California Desert Protection Act protects the California deserts which provide recreational resources for a wide spectrum of collaborative participants, solitude for those who wish to enjoy the undisturbed vistas and clear night skies. Now, Therefore, I, Susan Marie Weber, Mayor of the City of Palm Desert, California, Along With the Entire City Council, Do Hereby Recognize the California Desert Protection Act 25th Anniversary in the City of Palm Desert, and urge all residents to recognize the substantial contributions made by the California Desert Protection Act to protect California's rich desert landscape. In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and have caused the Official Seal of the City of Palm Desert, California, to be affixed this 24'" day of October. 2019.
