HomeMy WebLinkAboutPrsntatn - Child Abuse Prevention Day Whereas, children deserve a safe, stable, and permanent home in order to become productive members of our society; and Whereas, child abuse is found in families of all social and economic classes and every racial and ethnic group. Child abuse impacts the entire community, and finding solutions depends on community involvement to nurture family growth and inspire future generations; and Whereas, effective child abuse prevention programs succeed because of partnerships created among social service agencies, schools, religious organizations, law enforcement agencies, and the business community. Through the continued work of volunteers, parents, community partners, policy makers, and professionals, child abuse may be eradicated, giving our children a bright, successful future; and Whereas, all citizens should become more aware of child abuse and its prevention with the community and become more involved in supporting parents to raise their children in a safe, nurturing environment; and Whereas, since 1978, Olive Crest has helped transform the lives of thousands of abused, neglected and at-risk children and families in our community by providing safe homes, counseling and education, reflecting the belief that strengthening the family is one of the most powerful ways to help heal children; and Whereas, every child has a calling and purpose in which safety and security are key to their development. We partner with Olive Crest in preventing child abuse, to treating and educating at-risk children and to preserving the family. .. "One Life at a Time."® Now, Therefore, I, Sabby Jonathan, Mayor of the City of Palm Desert, California, Along With the Entire City Council, Do Hereby Proclaim Thursday, April 12, 2018, as Child Abuse Prevention Day in the City of Palm Desert and urge all residents to become more aware of this nationwide problem and to take necessary actions to prevent child abuse in their communities.
