Grance, Director of Building and Safety REQUEST: Extend professional service agreements to Scott Fazekas & Associates (Contract No. C36190A), Willdan Engineering (Contract No. C36190B), and Interwest Consulting Group, (Contract No. C36190C) for building plan review services for the fiscal year 2018/2019 Recommendation By Minute Motion: By Minute Motion, Staff requests that the City Council approve extending the professional service agreements to Scott Fazekas & Associates (Contract No. C36190A), Willdan Engineering (Contract No. C36190B), and Interwest Consulting Group, (Contract No. C36190C) for building plan review services for the fiscal year 2018/2019, not exceeding a total of $100,000.00. Funds will be available in FY Budget 2018-19 Account No. 1 1 04420-4301 000. Strategic Plan Economic Development Priority No. 4: Expand and raise awareness of business-friendly services in order to retain and attract businesses. Providing business-friendly services by maintaining timely commercial development inspection and plan review schedules is an ongoing operations function. Background Analysis At its regular meeting of June 8, 2017, the Palm Desert City Council, by Minute Motion, approved Contract No. C36190A with Scott Fazekas & Associates; Contract No. C36190B with Willdan Engineering; and Contract No. C36190C with Interwest Consulting Group. These professional service agreements will expire June 30, 2018. The TERM of the Agreement for Plan Review Services included a provision for extending up to a maximum of one year. The CONSULTANTS; Scott Fazekas & Associates, Willdan Engineering, and Interwest Consulting Group have all agreed to provide the same level of plan review services with no change in service costs from July 1, 2018, through June 30, 2019, per the attached letters of extension. June 14, 2018 - Staff Report Plan Check Consultants Contract Extensions Page 2 of 2 The primary use of Plan Review Consultants is to ensure that the City maintains a high level of customer service to the development community should there be an increase in construction activity. Building Department staff provides primary plan review services and only utilizes the Consultant for more complex structural reviews. This fiscal year to date the department has performed 694 plans reviews and only have been sent 20 projects to the consultant for structural review.
