HomeMy WebLinkAboutPrsntatn - FIND Food Bank Day Whereas, hunger and food insecurity are issues of grave concern for many of the Greater Coachella Valley's children, adults, seniors, and families; and Whereas, FIND Food Bank, which stands for Food In Need of Distribution, was established in 1983 for the purpose of feeding the hungry and a vision to achieve a hunger-free and healthy community; and Whereas, every month an average of 85,000 people receive food distributed by FIND Food Bank through their 16 mobile pantries and their over 100 non-profit agency partners, amounting annually to over 10 million pounds of food; and Whereas, through communication, collaboration and coordination with Emergency Relief personnel FIND Food Bank will assist in disaster relief efforts for the communities they serve to ensure and allocate the availability of adequate resources to where they are most needed; and Whereas, FIND Food Bank also mobilizes community resources, provides nutritional education with a proactive solution—based approach, focusing on providing and distributing healthy and nutritious food products; and Whereas, FIND Food Bank benefits from the generosity of more than 4,500 volunteers annually that help sort and distribute food products; and Whereas, FIND Food Bank represents our region as the member of Feeding America, the member of the California Association of Food Banks, and the contracted provider of the USDA Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP); and Whereas, the month of September 2018 is Hunger Action Month and the 35th Anniversary of FIND Food Bank, who will raise awareness about the need to devote resources and attention to relieve hunger and food insecurity in the Greater Coachella Valley. Now Therefore, I, Sabby Jonathan, Mayor of the City of Palm Desert, California, Along With the Entire City Council, do Hereby Recognize Thursday, September 6, 2018 as FIND Food Bank Day in the City of Palm Desert, commending them for 35 years of outstanding service and commitment to the health and wellness of Coachella Valley residents.
