Recommendation
By Minute Motion:
1. Approve a second one-year extension for Contract No. C33300 with
Mariposa Landscapes, Inc., for Landscape Maintenance Area No. 6 in
the amount of$78,415.80;
2. Include repair work and services at the specified contract amount not
to exceed 20 percent, or $15,683; and
3. Authorize the Mayor to execute the contract.
Funds are available in the General Fund Account No. 4414195-4332000, Desert Willow
Repair and Maintenance
Strategic Plan Objective
This is an on-going landscape maintenance function and contributes to our goal of
providing a uniquely beautiful desert environment in highly visible areas of the City.

Background
The subject contract was awarded to Mariposa Landscapes, Inc., by City Council on
April 24, 2014, for a term of two years, with an option for two, one-year extensions. The
contract includes the monthly maintenance services for Desert Willow and its perimeter.
On April 14, 2016, City Council approved the first extension, which is set to expire June
30, 2017, for the amount of$76,803.
Mariposa Landscapes has agreed to a second one-year contract extension
commencing July 1, 2017. However, due to the state's mandated minimum wage
increase, they are requesting a 2.1% increase to help offset the additional costs. Based
on Mariposa's performance, staff finds the increase to be reasonable. The request will
increase the contract by $134.40 per month ($1,612.80 per year); raising the contract
amount to $6,534.65 per month or $78,415.80 per year.
Repair work and services covers unquantifiable activities necessary for landscape
maintenance, which are not part of the landscape maintenance contract. This repair
work and services includes, but is not limited to, repair and replacement of irrigation
equipment; emergency tree work; replacement of trees and shrubs; pest control; and
accident and vandalism repair and replacement.
Fiscal Analysis
This is an on-going maintenance activity with no fiscal impact beyond the contract
amount.

CONTRACT NO. C33302
SECOND AMENDMENT TO AGREEMENT
WHEREAS, the City of Palm Desert ("City") and Mariposa Landscape, ("Contractor"),
entered into an agreement, dated April 24, 2014, for Landscape Maintenance Area No. 6
("Agreement"), the parties wish to amend the Agreement effective July 1, 2017.
NOW, THEREFORE, the parties agree as follows:
A. Term is amended to add the following paragraph to the end of the existing section, as
amended.
"The term of this Agreement is extended, and shall include the time period from July 1,
2017, through June 30, 2018."
B. The Amount of the contract will increase by the sum of one thousand six hundred
twelve dollars and 80/100 ($1,612.80) fora total annual contract price of$78,415.80.
C. All other terms and conditions of the Agreement shall remain unchanged, and shall
remain in full force and effect.

Subject: LMA 6 & LMA 9 Contract#'s C33300 & C33310 Renewal for FY 2017—2018
Dear Mr. Chavez:
Mariposa Landscapes, Inc., hereby requests the extension of both of our contracts mentioned above for
an additional year ending June 30, 2018. However, due to recent increases to the minimum wage, we
are requesting a modest increase to our contracts, and unit prices of 2.1%. This increase is based on the
most recent annual CPI (Consumer Price Index) available which is January 2017. Please see backup
attached.
Effective July 1, 2017, the new monthly price for LMA 6 Contract#C33300 will be $6,534.65. In addition,
the new monthly price for LMA 9 Contract#C33310 will be $16,994.56.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for allowing Mariposa Landscapes, Inc., the
opportunity to continue servicing the City of Palm Desert and its constituents. We look forward to
continue our business relationship for many years to come.
