HomeMy WebLinkAboutFY 17-18 - Newsletter Postage n 1 CITY OF PALM DESERT STAFF REPORT REQUEST: APPROVAL OF $35,000 EXPENDITURE FOR POSTAGE FOR THE BRIGHTSIDE NEWSLETTER FOR FISCAL YEAR 2017/2018 SUBMITTED BY: David Hermann, Senior Management Analyst CONTRACTOR: United States Postal Service Palm Desert, CA 92260 DATE: May 25, 2017 Recommendation By Minute Motion: Approve the expenditure of $35,000 for the United States Postal Service to cover a year's worth of postage for mailing of the bimonthly BrightSide newsletter. Funds have been included in the proposed budget for 2017/2018 in Account No. 1104417 - 4302600. Background The BrightSide newsletter is mailed six times a year to approximately 36,400 Palm Desert households and businesses at a current bulk rate of 15.5 cents per piece. The cost for mailing the newsletter is expected to average approximately $5,700 per issue based on current U.S. Postal Service rates and past rate increases, which have historically ranged between .4 cents and .7 cents. Fiscal Analysis Approval of this expenditure will ensure delivery of the City's newsletter. The fiscal impact is $35,000 to the general fund. Funds have been included in the proposed budget for 2017/2018; Account No. 1104417 - 4302600.
