SUBMITTED BY: Mark Greenwood, P.E., Director of Public Works

DATE: June 8, 2017
Recommendation
By Minute Motion, approve the use of Desert Recycling, Inc., for dump
fees during Fiscal Year 2017-18 in an amount not to exceed $40,000.
Funds are available in General Fund Account No. 1104310-4332000, R/M Streets.
Strategic Plan Objective
This is an on-going maintenance function and as such, does not directly contribute to
the objectives of the Strategic Plan.
Background
Desert Recycling, Inc., is listed on the Maintenance Services Division's Various Vendors
and Qualified Service Providers List that is approved annually by the City Council. This
list grants exception to the bidding requirements up to a maximum of $25,000 per
vendor. Staff used to keep an open purchase order for the monthly dump fees used to
recycle the sand, concrete, and/or asphalt collected throughout the year. However, due
to the unusually high winds and staffs assistance to CVAG, the dump fees have exceed
the maximum amount allowed under the open purchase order.
Staff Report
Approve the Use of Desert Recycling, Inc.

In addition, Desert Recycling is the only local vendor that accepts the sediment that
accumulates in the City's drywells, and gets collected for disposal by the Ditch Witch
vacuum system. Therefore, staff requests approval to use of Desert Recycling during
FY17/18 in an amount not to exceed $40,000.
Fiscal Analysis
This is an on-going maintenance activity with no fiscal impact beyond the contract
amount.
