HomeMy WebLinkAboutFormation - Ad Hoc DW Resident Advisory Task Force CITY OF PALM DESERT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT STAFF REPORT REQUEST: CONSIDERATION TO FORM AN AD HOC DESERT WILLOW RESIDENT ADVISORY TASK FORCE SUBMITTED BY: Martin Alvarez, Director of Economic Development DATE: June 22, 2017 Recommendation By Minute Motion that the City Council: Direct staff to form an ad hoc Desert Willow Resident Advisory Task Force with members outlined below in the staff report. Discussion On March 9, 2017 the City Council directed staff to form a task force that would evaluate all aspects of the resident benefits at Desert Willow Golf Resort. The topics that will be addressed by the task force include but are not limited to: • Resident Golf Fees (Peak Season/Off Peak Periods) • Resident Tee Time Access • Resident Card Criteria; and • General Resident Pro Shop/Clubhouse Benefits The City Council approved the composition of the task force to include (2) residents that are golfers, (2) residents that are non-golfers, a representative from the hospitality industry, a representative from the golf industry, a City Councilmember and staff. The following members are recommended to be appointed to the task force: Residents (Golfers): Tom Walton Lou Gonzales Residents (Non-golfers): Jim McIntosh Kim Housken Hospitality Industry Representative: Jim Moran, General Manager Westin Desert Willow Villas DW Resident Advisory Task Force - Staff Report June 22, 2017 Page 2 of 2 Golf Industry Representative: Tim Skogen, First Tee Director City Councilmember: Sabby Jonathan Staff: Lauri Aylaian, City Manager Martin Alvarez, Director of Economic Development Anthony Hernandez, Sr. Financial Analyst, Finance Department Once the appointments are confirmed, staff anticipates starting the task force meetings in the early part of the fall, or as soon as all members return from summer vacations. Meetings for the task force will be held as needed and once the task force has reviewed all of the Desert Willow resident benefits, staff will return to the City Council with recommendations. Fiscal Analysis No fiscal impact has been identified at this time.
