Recommendation
By Minute Motion,.approve the following;
1. Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade.schedured for Sunday, October 9;2017;
2. El Paseo and Larkspur road closures for the event;,
3.: onsuniptionlPossession of Alcoholic Beverages on Public Property Pursuant to
Palm Desert Municipal Code 9.58,040;
4. Sponsorship in the amount of $36,500 payable to the Palm Desert Area Chamber of
Commerce from Account No,:1144416-4 06201;
5. Sponsorship of In-kind Public Works services; and
6- Expenditure in an amount not to exceed $5,000 for construction.of the Dity's golf cart
float from Account No. 1104416-4306101.
Strategic Plan Objective
Approval of the 2017 Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade event and sponsorship would help address
the following priorities as specified in the 2013-2033 Strategic Plan, Envision Palm Desert—:
Forward Together.
— Economic Development Priority 3: Create and attract entertainment and events to
enhance and expand the Palm Desert economy and lifestyle..
Parks and Recreation Priority 3: Make recreational and exercise opportunities available
in all public spaces,
— Tourism and Marketing Priority 2: Grow existing events and develop new events to
enhance the desirability of Palm Desert as a year round destination.
Backciround
The 53rd annual. Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade, themed Desert Safari,. is scheduled to take
place on Sunday, October 29, 2017, This event continues to. be very'popular for Coachella

Valley residents with strong attendance that continues to grow each year..The Golf Cart Parade
Committee is currently discussing ways to increase and elevate event activities in effort to
encourage attendance and! entry participation. The Committee •is hopeful that with: a few
incentives, float entries will increase and become more creative„In this endeavor, the following
will be undertaken as part of the 2017 event:
• Increased media coverage and marketing..
• Outreach to larger businesses/organizations within the. community to encourage
' participation'and sponsorship,.
• Expanded interactive children's area:
• Expansion of vendors and activities within the expo area.
• Increased cash awards for winning floats.
Fiscal Analysis
The City has been a longtime title sponsor of the Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade through a '
$35,000 financial contribution; as well as' through providing in-kind services offered by the
Public Works Department to handle traffic contraband road closures for the event For the last
few years, the City has also funded a s5op award for the Mayors trophy..In addition, last year,
City staff members recommenced with their tradition of constn sting the City's float entry for the
parade (as opposed to hiring a contractor to construct the float.) As such, $5,000 for materials
to construct this year's float, along with $35,000 for the title sponsorship, and• $500 for the
Mayor's trophy were 'included In the FY 017/18 budget. Funds are available in account
