Approve and authorize staff to use vendors on the Patin Desert Public Safety Vendors List appended to this report; and 2. Approve exception to bidding requirements as provided by Sections 3.32.0% 3.32.065, and 3 32 090 of the Municipal Code for Fiscal Year 2017-18. Commission Action The Palm Desert Public Safety Commission did not review this request, as their June meeting was cancelled Strateale Plan Oblective This item relates to the Public Safety and Emergency Services section of the Palm Desert Strategic Plan, spacifsally under Pnorifyy 1: Enhance the defivem ofUubllc safari, services. The priority's strategy is to expantl the existing superlative services provided by the fire and police departments to address future growth and safety concerns. By providing access to the needed services and tools indicated within this report, the Police and Fire Departments can effectively carry out then missions. Background The City's Purchasing Policies and Procedures require bidding of services over $TWO. To expedite required public safety equipment purchases and maintenance, staff Staff RepoliFY 2017/18 Authorized Public Safety Vendors July 13, 2017 Page 2 of 5 annually prepares a list of authorized vendors for such specialty equipment and services. Many of the purchases are for repairs of equipment and specialty services critical for providing life/safety operations leg trauma scene clean-up/restoration, blood draws, K-9 veterinary care, chemical laboratory testing services, and Traffic Team equipment calibration). A list of pre -approved vendors expedites provision of these services, therefore, staff respectfully requests an exception to the standard purchasing procedures as outlined in Me Palm Desert Municipal Code (Sections 3.32.061), 3.32.065, and 3.32.090). Vendors are IdenMied in the allached Exhibit A. Fiscal Analysis Approval of staff's recommendation would permit the Palm Desert Police and Fire Department to service their related equipment owned by the City, as well as purchasing certain specialty equipment and services as needed.
