Director of Public Works DATE: July 1T 2017 CONTENTS: Ordinance No 11326 Recommendation Waive further reading and pass to second reading Ordinance No. 1.326 approving the amendment of Section 10,48.040,No-Parking Areas, of the Palm Desert Municipal Code, Strategic Plan Obiective The proposed action will further the goals of the strategic plan by continuing to provide a safe and efficient transportation system for both residents and visitors, Background California Vehicle Code (VEH § 22500) prohibits any vehicle from stopping„ parking; or standing within an intersection unless it;is adjacent to a curb, and permitted.by a local ordinance. The City of Palm Desert Municipal Code prohibits this only when the area is indicated by appropriate signs, or red paint an the curbs. Not every intersection in the City :has these indications to prevent parking;' therefore, the City's Municipal Code 10.48.040 is being amended to no longer allow stopping, parking, or' standing in are intersection. Hargreaves, City Attorney Approval: Lauri Aylaian, City Manager Depart Mark qre nwcod, P.E., Director Public Works ORDINANCE NO. 1326 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM DESERT, CALIFORNIA AMENDING PALM DESERT MUNICIPAL CODE SECTION 10.48.040 (B) PERTAINING TO NO -PARKING AREAS The City Council of the City of Palm Desert, California, does hereby ordain as follows: SECTION 1: That Section 10.48.040 (B), No -parking areas, is hereby amended to read as follows: B, On either side of any street between the projected property lines of any public walk, public steps, street, or thoroughfare terminating at such street; SECTION 2: That the City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this ordinance, and shall cause the same to be published in the County of Riverside, and circulated'within the City of Palm Desert, and shall be in full force and effective thirty (30) days after its adoption.
