Recommendation
By Minute Motion:
1. Authorize the purchase of three complete Type R traffic signal controller
cabinet assemblies in the amount of $69,046.20.
Funding is available for this purchase in Account No. 1104250-4332500, Traffic Safety — R/M
Signals.
Strategic Plan Objective
The proposed action will further the goals of the strategic plan by providing a safe and
efficient transportation system for both residents and visitors.
Background
Currently the Traffic Signal Division has no spare Type R traffic signal controller cabinet
assemblies in inventory. A spare cabinet assembly is used at locations where a replacement
is needed due to a knock-down or other major failures. The complete assembly includes the
cabinet housing equipped with all pertinent equipment and hardware for a fully functional
traffic signal controller unit.
Generally, a traffic signal controller cabinet assembly is kept in reserve to use as a spare
when needed. In late 2016 and early 2017 several incidents occurred, requiring new cabinet
installations, thereby depleting the reserve. The City has 103 signalized intersections, 99 of

which are maintained by City staff. Having these essential replacements readily available is
crucial to the timely repair and continued high level of public service.
Econolite Group, Inc., is the sole source provider of traffic signal controller equipment that is
compatible with the City's central signal control system. Staff requested and received a
quote from Econolite Group, Inc., in the amount of $69,046.20 for the purchase and delivery
of three complete traffic signal controller cabinet assemblies. A copy of their quote is
attached for reference.
Fiscal Analysis
There is no fiscal impact beyond the purchase price for the controller cabinet assemblies.
