HomeMy WebLinkAboutPrsntatn - Cpt. J. Yazloff - Mini Muster Pgrm Whereas, an 1993 members of the Historical Society of Palm
Desert approached Fire Captain James Yazloff with the concept of the
Palm Desert Mini-Muster; and
Whereas, under Captain Yazloff's leadership, his fire crews took
the idea and ran with it, creating props, games and events that would
teach fire safety to third graders in the five Palm Desert elementary
schools; and
Whereas, Mini-Muster activities give students a day of fun and
learning outside of the classroom, coinciding each October with
National Fire Prevention Week; and
Whereas, in joint partnership between the Historical Society of
Palm Desert, CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department, Desert
Sands Unified School District, the City of Palm Desert and other
community partners, the event has continued for 25 years; and
Whereas, over the years the program has been refined and
improved to support the growth of the community; and
Whereas, the number of lives that this program has potentially
saved over the years cannot be quantified. Children have come home
insisting on fire drills, exit plans and changing the batteries in smoke
detectors; and
Whereas, without the inspiration and leadership of Retired Fire
Captain James Yazloff, the Mini-Muster Program would not have
begun and continued for the last 25 years.
Now, Therefore, I, Jan C. Harnik, Mayor of the City of
Palm Desert, California, Along With the Entire City Council, Do Hereby
Proclaim Thursday, December 14, 2017, as
Fire Captain James Yazloff Day
in the City of Palm Desert and urge all citizens to extend their
appreciation to James for his contribution to the safety of our
community, with best wishes for health and success in the years to
come.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand
and have caused the Official Seal of the City of Palm
Desert, California, to be affixed this 14th day of
December 2017.
