IX. REPORTS AND REMARKS
A. COUNCIL MEMBERS
Mayor Hamik presented information from the Southern California Association
of Government's General Assembly held in Palm Desert in May. One of the
big takeaways for her was a presentation on the progress of autonomous
vehicles.
She presented information from the Intemational Conference of Shopping
Centers where she learned about "big data" and parking geo-fencing.
She reported that the Environmental Impact report for the CV Link was
approved by the Coachella Valley Association of Govemments Executive
Committee and the CV Link in Cathedral City has already broken ground.
A Youth Committee Member inquired as to the Mayor's announcement that she
will be running for Riverside County Supervisor and Mayor Harnik
acknowledged that she would be running.
B. Legislative Review Committee
Ms. Glickman and Mayor Hamik presented to the committee Assemblymember
Evan Low's proposed bill ACA 10 which proposes to lower the voting age in
California from 18 to 17. The bill purports that lowering the voting age will
increase voter tumout and that if youths are engaged at an earlier age they will
continue to vote as they grow older. After a lengthy discussion, the Committee
and altemate members determined that they would not advise the lowering of
the voting age by an informal vote of 14 opposed and 2 in favor.
