Glickman, Management Analyst DATE: January 14, 2016 CONTENTS: Images of Reach by Mitchell Taylor Image of Joshua Tree One by Mitchell Taylor Recommendation By Minute Motion, approve the replacement of Joshua Tree One with Reach by Mitchell Taylor for the 2015/2016 El Paseo Exhibition. Commission Recommendation At its meeting of December 9, 2015, the Art in Public Places (AIPP) Commission recommended approval with a 4-0-0 vote with Commissioners Donna Jean Darby and Megan Miller absent, to replace Joshua Tree One with Reach by Mitchell Taylor for the 2015/2016 El Paseo Exhibition. Executive Summary Artist Mitchell Taylor has a prospective buyer for Joshua Tree One which is currently on Pad 15 in the 2015/2016 El Paseo Exhibition. He is requesting to remove the sculpture and replace it with Reach a sculpture based on a Mojave Desert Ocotillo standing eight foot, six inches tall with the top portion expanding to five feet. The sculpture will be powder coated in a bright orange copper color. Participants in the El Paseo Exhibition are permitted to exchange their artwork one (1) time throughout the duration of the exhibition, do not receive a second honorarium, and are responsible for any major costs related to the artwork exchange. The new artwork must be placed onsite at the time of the removal of the original artwork. Staff Report Replacement of Joshua Tree One Page 2 of 2 January 14, 2016 Fiscal Analvsis The artist will be responsible for the cost of a crane.
