Desert residents since January 1, 2003. Mary was a full-time nurse
until she retired and she now dedicates her time to volunteering; and
Whereas, Mary currently dedicates her volunteer hours
between the Medical Reserves Corps and the City of Palm Desert's
Citizens on Patrol Program (COPs); and
Whereas, Mary became a COPs member on February 23,d,
2011, and worked her way up to Administrative Sergeant. She
volunteers 80 to 100 hours each month patrolling our streets, keeping
the neighborhoods and businesses safe; and
Whereas, to show her comradery and appreciation for her
fellow COPs members Mary was instrumental in bringing the
Presidential Volunteer Service Awards Program to the Palm Desert
COPs Program; and
Whereas, at the end of each year recognition and awards are
presented to those members that meet the criteria of the Awards
Program, which are 250+ volunteer hours to receive the Silver Award
and 500+ hours to receive the Gold Award; and
Whereas, in 2015 nine COPs members received the Silver
Presidential Volunteer Service Award and seven members received
the Gold Presidential Volunteer Service Award. Mary received the
Gold Award with 768 volunteer hours during 2015.
Now, Therefore, I, Robert A. Spiegel, Mayor of the City of
Palm Desert, Along With the Entire City Council, Do Hereby Proclaim
Thursday, March 24, 2016, as
Sergeant Mary LaSorsa Day
in the City of Palm Desert, and join with the community in recognizing
Mary for her dedication to the City of Palm Desert and for going
above and beyond in bringing the Presidential Volunteer Service
Awards Program to the Citizens on Patrol Program.
