Discussion
In September 2009, the Governor signed SB546 (Lowenthal) making significant
changes to the California Oil Recycling Enhancement Act. As part of these changes the
California Integrated Waste Management Board was dissolved, and the California
Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery Board (CalRecycle) was created.
CalRecycle requires a new resolution every five (5) years authorizing Household
Hazardous Waste (HHW) and Recycling Grant Applications to CalRecycle.
The City of Palm Desert is submitting a grant application to CalRecycle for the
Household Hazardous Waste 27th Cycle (FY 2016/2017) Grant for minor facility
improvements to the City's Permanent HHW Facility and equipment purchases.
Therefore, staff requests City Council approval to submit the City's grant application,
approval of the resolution, and expenditure of funds upon award.
