CBS Local 2 and Den Leader for Cub Scout Troop 377, was selected by
the Boy Scouts of America to receive The Honor Medal for quick, decisive,
and courageous action; and
Whereas, in September of 2014, Christopher was on assignment
covering the 700 Year Flood," which had covered most of the Coachella
Valley in pools of water and had swept up dangerous amounts of debris
and dirt; and
Whereas, though unprepared, without hesitation Christopher put
down his camera, rushed to the driveway of a gas station where more than
2 1/2 feet of rushing water had accumulated, scooped up a man named Skip
who was in danger of drowning, and dragged him out of harm's way; and
Whereas, The Boy Scouts of America Honor Medal is awarded to a
youth member or adult leader who has demonstrated unusual heroism and
skill in saving or attempting to save a life at considerable risk to self; and
Whereas, exemplifying the highest ideals of scouting Christopher's
quick action serves as a shining example of the great good that can be
accomplished by one selfless individual; and
Whereas, Christopher is a Palm Desert resident and is an active
member of the local community. He enjoys spending time with his family,
coaching youth soccer, and teaching leadership skills to Cub Scout Troop
377.
Now, Therefore, the City Council of the City of Palm Desert,
California, Does Hereby Proclaim Thursday, April 14th, 2016, as
Christopher Flicker Day
in the City of Palm Desert and urges all residents to join us in expressing
our appreciation for his contribution and service to our community, with our
best wishes for the future.
