Recommendation
By Minute Motion:
1. Accept the resignation of Emily Bird-Hrivnak from the Marketing
Committee;
2. Appoint Erin Scott, Marketing and Public Relations Manager at the Living
Desert, to the Marketing Committee;
3. Appoint Barb Wagner, Director of Sales & Marketing at JW Marriott
Desert Springs Resort, to the Marketing Committee.
Backqround
Marketing Committee by-laws allow for no more than eleven (11) members representing a
variety of business segments including a local attraction and a large hotel. On June 8, 2016,
Emily Bird-Hrivnak notified the City via email that she has moved and is no longer available
to serve on the Committee. This currently leaves the Committee with nine active members
and two vacancies.
Since the resignation of Kerry Graves of The Living Desert, that organization has not been
represented on the Committee. Because it is one of the City's largest local attractions, staff
feels it important to have a representative of The Living Desert serve on the Committee.
Erin Scott, recently appointed Marketing and Public Relations Manager at The Living
Desert, has a marketing background and an understanding of the local market that would
make her a tremendous asset to the Committee. Her appointment would fill the unexpired
term of Kerry Graves, through December 2019.
The resignation of Emily Bird-Hrivnak leaves open a seat that fulfills the large hotel
requirement set forth in the bylaws. Barb Wagner, Director of Sales & Marketing at the JW
Marriott Desert Springs Resort, brings to bear a wide understanding of the tourism and

hospitality industries based on her years of experience with that company. Her appointment
would fill the unexpired term of Emily Bird-Hrivnak, through December 2017.
Staff recommends City Council accept Emily Bird-Hrivnak's resignation, and appoint Erin
Scott and Barb Wagner to the Palm Desert Marketing Committee.

for formal acceptance of the resignation. Have you moved away from the area? Or would you be available to
be publicly recognized for your time on the City's Marketing Committee at the Thursday, July 14, Council
Meeting at 4:00 p.m.?
In either case, I will still need your completed Form 700 — and it will be a leaving Office Statement for the period
of January 1, 2015 —June 30, 2016. Can you get that to me as soon as possible?

As the Marketing and PR Manager of The Living Desert, I would be honored to serve on the Marketing
Committee for the City of Palm Desert. As the marketing representative for one of the largest
attractions in Palm Desert, it would be mutually beneficial to collaborate and continue building a strong
and synergistic relationship. In addition, the opportunity to work with the other represented entities on
the Marketing Committee to build partnerships that benefit all would be advantageous and work to
align our efforts to attract visitors and promote Palm Desert as the premier destination in the Coachella
Valley. The Living Desert values the continued support the City of Palm Desert has provided, and we
look forward to continuing to work closely together to achieve our common goals.
Personally, as a resident of the Coachella Valley for five years, I have become deeply involved in the
organizations and associations that make this community great. As a marketing professional, I have
strong attention to detail and am able to think creatively and critically. I have served on numerous
Boards and value teamwork, inclusion and hard work. If appointed to the Marketing Committee, I will

The marketing committee meetina I attended on April 16. 2016 was very well run and informative.
I believe the committee is effective in their efforts to advise and evaluate the city's marketing plans.
As a representative for an attraction, it was great to learn about the plans and efforts the city is
undertaking to promote and market to visitors and residents.
