Aryan, Risk Manager DATE: June 30, 2016 CONTENTS: Palm Desert Police Department Memorandum (dated 06/15/16) Palm Desert Fire Department List (dated 06/21/16) Recommendation By Minute Motion, recommend that the Palm Desert City Council approve the FY 2016/17 Authorized Public Safety Vendors List as presented in the Riverside County Sheriff's Department Memorandum dated June 15, 2016 and Riverside County Fire Department list dated June 21, 2016. Commission Action The Palm Desert Public Safety Commission did not hold a June meeting, so this item was not reviewed. Background The City's Purchasing Policies and Procedures require bidding of services over $1,000. To expedite required public safety equipment purchases and maintenance, staff annually prepares a list of authorized vendors for such specialty equipment and services. Vendors are identified in the attached Riverside County Sheriff's Department memorandum dated June 15, 2016 and Riverside County Fire Department list dated June 21, 2016. Please note that in addition to equipment and maintenance vendors, this list also contains specialty services as well (e.g. trauma scene clean-up/restoration and chemical laboratory testing services, radar/lidar maintenance, ticket writers, traffic collision software, forensic evidence collection, etc.). Due to these different manufactures, and equipment, there are different vendors that install and service this equipment. Only 4 BMW motorcycles are still covered under warranty. In addition to the motorcycles, the traffic team is responsible for the Commercial Enforcement vehicle, DUI trailer, other various traffic equipment, and traffic scene cleanups. The city also owns a Police Service Dog that requires feed, on -going veterinary care, and law enforcement based training to maintain its proficiency and usefulness.
