traffic collision occurred at the intersection of Monterey Avenue and
Country Club Drive in Palm Desert; and
Whereas, as a result of the accident the driver of one vehicle was
significantly entrapped in his vehicle, which was also on fire; and
Whereas, Fire Captain Bryan White was off duty and was on his
way home, having just left Fire Station 33; and
Whereas, Captain White arrived on scene shortly after the accident
and notified the Perris Command Center that the accident was a "Cut and
Rescue with Fire;" and
Whereas, Captain White flagged down a SunLine transit bus,
knowing they are required to carry a fire extinguisher; and
Whereas, Captain White was wearing short pants, flip flops and a t-
shirt. Utilizing his experience and training and at great risk to himself, he
extinguished the flames, protecting the driver who would have most likely
died as a result of the fire; and
Whereas, Captain White is an extremely valuable asset to the State
of California, the citizens of Riverside County and the residents of Palm
Desert.
Now, Therefore, I, Robert A. Spiegel, Mayor of the City of
Palm Desert, California, Along With the Entire City Council, Do Hereby
Proclaim Thursday, July 28, 2016, as
Fire Captain Bryan White Day
in the City of Palm Desert and urge all residents to join us in expressing our
appreciation for his contribution and service to our community, with our
best wishes for the future.
