Glickman, Management Analyst DATE: CONTENTS Recommendation August 25, 2016 Artwork Proposal By Minute Motion: Approve the proposal by Susan Smith Evans to be applied in vinyl to the set of two (2) traffic signal cabinets on the southeast corner of Magnesia Falls Drive and Portola Avenue. Commission Recommendation At its meeting of July 29, 2016, the Art in Public Places (AIPP) Commission recommended approval of the proposal with a vote of 4-0-0, with Commissioners Bussing and Darby absent. Strateqic Plan Not applicable. Background At their meetings of February 10 and March 10, 2016 respectively, the Art in Public Places Commission (AIPP) and City Council approved the selection of Susan Smith Evans as the artist to create artwork for the set of two (2) traffic signal cabinets at Magnesia Falls Drive and Portola Avenue. As part of her contract, Ms. Evans was required to host up to two (2) workshops with students to create two (2) to three (3) design proposals for the cabinets. Ms. Evans conducted seven (7) workshops with students from Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, and her proposal includes artwork from the students with whom she worked. Ms. Evans presented two (2) proposals to the AIPP Commission at its July 29, 2016 meeting, and the commissioners selected one (1) for approval by City Council. Staff Report Artwork for Traffic Signal Cabinets Page 2 August 25, 2016 Once the proposal is approved by City Council, the artist will work with the selected fabricator and installer to determine the specifications needed for the printing of the vinyl wrap and provide them with the digital files for the artwork. The City will coordinate and pay for the fabrication and installation of the wrap. Fiscal Analvsis Ms. Evans' contract for $750 for this project was approved by City Council at its March 10, 2016 meeting. Approval of this proposal will initiate the second and final payment on the contract in the amount of $500. Funds are available in the FY 2016/2017 budget, with no impact on the General Fund.
