Backaround
Staff was approached by Mr. Seth Cash with My City Everyday about producing a health and
wellness day at the Civic Center Park and would serve to bring the surrounding cities together
for a fun day of learning about health and fitness.
The proposed event is completely contained within the Civic Center Park and would require no
additional road closures, traffic control, nor police support. There will be no charge for general
admission to the event, and if approved, the event producers will book the event space through
the Desert Recreation District and will be completely orchestrated by the event producer —
keeping City staff privy to evolving plans and logistics.
It is one of the many objectives of our Community Development Department to see more
events, such as this, come to life in our green spaces that serve to bring our community
members together under a common goal of healthier, happier living. Below, please find a listing
of events proposed for this day:
Local Businesses in the health and wellness industry will attend with booths for the public to
learn, taste, sample, or play games for free prizes. (75-100 Booths)
Hydration Stations will be provided around the grounds with free water and electrolytes as well
as educational pieces on the importance of staying adequately hydrated in the desert, especially
during the summer.
Short Educational Seminars on various health and wellness topics will be provided for people
to sign up and learn about topics such as:
• Importance of Exercise
• Mental Health
• Fitness Guidance for 50 & Wiser
• Fitness Guidance for kids and families (a family who is healthy together stays healthy
better)
• Heart Health
• Stress Relief
• Nutrition and/or cooking classes
Education Sessions will go on during the event, spaced to give everyone a chance to attend,
perhaps every 60-90 minutes with either music, or fitness activities in-between.
Fitness Activities will be provided for everyone to sign up and enjoy, showing the community
how fun and easy it can be to stay healthy and physically active. Fitness events will be things
like:
• Zumba class
• Stretching Sessions
• Yoga and meditation
• Kids Time with families
• Bootcamp Challenges
Local Restaurants will have booths to feed the community all day during the park's activities.
