HomeMy WebLinkAboutPrsntatn - Binational Health WeekWhereas, according to the 2012 United States Census, this country is home
to more than 53 million people of Latino origin; and
Whereas, in the month of October for the last 15 years the Health Initiative of
the Americas and partner organizations have convened Binational Health Week,
an unprecedented effort overseen by multi -agency taskforces, which has evolved
into one of the largest mobilization efforts to improve the health and well-being of
the underserved Latino population that lives in the United States and Canada,
and
Whereas, Binational Health Week reflects coordinated efforts to improve the
quality of life of underserved populations by expanding their access to health
care, increasing their health insurance coverage, and reducing their unmet health
needs in regions with a high level of community health needs; and
Whereas, through health fairs, educational health workshops, insurance
referrals and medical screenings, the main health topics that will be addressed this
year are vaccines, diabetes, occupational health, and health services; and
Whereas, based on prior years it is estimated that over 400,000 people will
be reached in 2016 through Binational Health Week events; and
Whereas, the City of Palm Desert recognizes and honors those observances
that are dedicated to the best ideals of public services, and Binational Health
Week is one such worthy observance.
Now Therefore I, Robert A. Spiegel, Mayor of the City of Palm Desert,
California, Along With the Entire City Council, Do Hereby Recognize the Week of
October 15 to 21, 2016, as
Binational Health Week
in the City of Palm Desert, and encourage our citizens to join the people of Latino
origin in observing and participating in the Sixteenth Annual Binational Health
Week events at the Central City Community Health Center in Indio on Saturday,
October 15th.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand
and have caused the Official Seal of the City of
Palm Desert, California, to be affixed this 13th day
of October 2016.
