ADMINISTRATIVE CONFERENCE ROOM 73-510 FRED WARING DRIVE, PALM DESERT, CA 92260 CALL TO ORDER Ms. Glickman convened the meeting at 6:00 p.m. II. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None IV. PRESENTATIONS A. Palm Desert Library — SEPTEMBER 12, 2016 Janet Akel, Librarian, presented information about upcoming programming at the library. B. Relay For Life — American Cancer Society Fundraising Event - Janine Judy presented on and invited the Youth Committee members to volunteer for the Relay For Life on Saturday, October 1, 2016 in the Civic Center Park. C. YMCA of the Desert - Rob Ballew presented on and invited the Youth Committee members to volunteer for the YMCA's Y Be Fit Desert Challenge event on Sunday, October 2, 2016 in the Civic Center Park. D. Chamber of Commerce — Rob Ballew presented on and invited the Youth Committee members to volunteer for the Golf Cart Parade on Sunday, October 30, 2016 on El Paseo. E. Brown Act and Parliamentary Procedure - City Clerk, Rachelle Klassen, presented on the Brown Act and parliamentary procedures. V. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A. MINUTES of the May 2, 2016, Palm Desert Youth Committee meeting Upon consensus by the Committee, the May 2, 2016, Minutes were approved as presented. 2 MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE SEPTEMBER 12, 2016 VI. NEW BUSINESS A. ELECTION of Chair for the 2016/17 School Year Upon a motion by Member Chang, second by Member Wood and carried by a unanimous vote by the Youth Committee, Member Dan was elected to serve as Youth Committee Chair for the 2016/17 school year. B. ELECTION of Vice -Chair for the 2016/17 School Year Upon Ms. Glickman's request for self nominations for the office of Youth Committee Vice -Chair for the 2016/17 school year, Members L. Kim, C. Kim, Johnson and Wood declared their candidacy and gave statements of qualification. Upon a motion by Member Berenbaum, second by Member Dan, and carried by a 5- 0-4 vote by the Youth Committee, Member Johnson was elected to serve as Youth Committee Vice -Chair for the 2016/17 school year. C. APPOINTMENT of Member to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and provide an update on Youth Committee activities at the September 22, 2016, City Council Meeting. Upon consensus by the Committee, Member Johnson was appointed to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and provide an update on Youth Committee activities at the September 22, 2016 City Council Meeting. D. CONSIDERATION of Activities for the 206/17 School Year Ms. Glickman presented a list of potential activities (past and future) for the committee members to review and discuss at their October meeting. A sustainability sub -committee was formed to include Members Dan, Johnson, C. Kim, L. Kim, Wood, and visitors Ms. Galvin, Ms. Schwartz, and Ms. Frary. E. CONSIDERATION of Subcommittee Appointments and Committee / Commission Liaisons for the 2016/17 School Year Ms. Glickman asked the members to consider applying as liaisons for other City standing committees/commissions. She distributed information and asked members to submit their committee/commission preferences via email or at the next meeting. 3 MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE SEPTEMBER 12, 2016 VII. OLD BUSINESS None Vill. CONTINUED BUSINESS None IX. REPORTS AND REMARKS A. COUNCIL MEMBERS B. STAFF Ms. Glickman proposed a meeting date change from October 3, 2016 to October 10, 2016 and the committee was in agreement. Attendance Sheets — Ms. Glickman handed out attendance tracking sheets for members to track their volunteer hours throughout the year so the information can be used for future letters of recommendation. C. COMMITTEE MEMBERS 1. Events None 2. Proiects None 3. Sub -Committee Updates a. Anti -bullying Subcommittee No report. b. Legislative Review Committee No report. c. Citizens` Sustainability Committee No report. 4 MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE SEPTEMBER 12, 2016 d. Palm Desert Sister Cities Foundation Sister Cities invited Ms. Glickman to attend one of its meetings to discuss youth activities. The meeting date shall be determined. Ms. Glickman asked to have a representative from Sister Cities contact her directly. e. Art in Public Places Commission No report. f. Public Safety Committee No report. g. Other Committee/Commission Reports No report. X.
