playing or coaching soccer, Robert "Bob" Richardson volunteered to
coach his sons in the Palm Desert located Cove Communities Youth
Soccer Association; and
Whereas, at the urging of Board members, in 1985 Bob joined
the Board of Directors of Cove Communities Youth Soccer
Association and became its President in 1988, a role he has
continuously served since then; and
Whereas, in the late 1980s Bob had the vision to lead the Cove
Communities Youth Soccer Association's move to the United States
Soccer Federation's new California State Association CalSouth,
making it then and to this day the only local recreational soccer
league to be a member of United States Youth Soccer Association,
the largest youth soccer association in North America; and
Whereas, Bob and other city visionaries worked to make the
Palm Desert Soccer Park a reality where the Palm Desert Youth
Soccer League (PDYSL), the recreational soccer arm of Cove
Communities Youth Soccer Association, has continuously played its
games since the park's opening in 1999; and
Whereas, through Bob's leadership, PDYSL offers recreational
and competitive soccer programs year-round to more than 1,200
youth soccer players; and
Whereas, in 2015 CalSouth awarded Bob the "LA Galaxy
Youth Soccer Volunteer of the Year," an honor given to a single
person from 34,000 registered coaches, volunteers, and program
administrators from San Luis Obispo to San Diego; and
Now, Therefore, I, Robert A. Spiegel, Mayor of the City of
Palm Desert, Along With the Entire City Council, Do Hereby Proclaim
Thursday, December 8th, 2016, as
Bob Richardson Day
in the City of Palm Desert, and join with the community in recognizing
him for his dedication to the City of Palm Desert and for going above
and beyond in bringing excellent youth soccer programs to the
children of the Coachella Valley.
