Strateqic Plan Obiective The requested action does not directly impact the strategic plan. Discussion Due to extremely low registration, the Biggest Loser Half Marathon and 5K event previously scheduled for Sunday, December 4, 2016, will be rescheduled to another date in 2017. The organizers indicated that they had somewhere in the area of 300 people registered for the event and felt that moving forward with such a low number would not be beneficial to their organization or the City. Staff plans to come back to City Council for approval of the new date and an updated sponsorship agreement on January 12, 2017. As a result of the popular Rhythm Wine and Brews Festival taking place at the Empire Polo Club in Indio on Saturday, March 4, 2017, the Palm Desert Area Chamber of Commerce has decided to postpone the Palm Desert Chill 'N Grill Barbeque. Because both events share like elements to include gourmet style food, live music, and beer and wine tastings, the Chamber believes that postponing the event to a later date (possibly December 2017 or January 2018) will help maximize attendance. Staff plans to come back to City Council for approval of the new date and updated sponsorship agreement sometime next year. STAFF REPORT INFORMATIONAL REGARDING THE BIGGEST LOSER HALF MARATHON AND 5K AND PALM DESERT CHILL `N GRILL BARBEQUE DECEMBER 8, 2016 PAGE 2 Fiscal Analysis City Council previously approved a sponsorship in the amount of $35,000 for the Palm Desert Chill `N Grill Barbeque out of the FY 2016/17 budget. Because this sponsorship will not be expended during the 2016/17 fiscal year, staff plans to include it in the FY 2017/18 budget.
