HomeMy WebLinkAboutExpenditure - Postage to Deliver BrightSide NewsletterX-K CITY OF PALM DESERT STAFF REPORT REQUEST: APPROVAL OF $33,600 EXPENDITURE FOR POSTAGE FOR THE BRIGHTSIDE NEWSLETTER FOR FISCAL YEAR 2015/2016 SUBMITTED BY: David Hermann, Management Analyst CONTRACTOR: United States Postal Service Palm Desert, CA 92260 DATE: May 14, 2015 Recommendation By Minute Motion: Approve the expenditure of $33,600 for the United States Postal Service to cover a year's worth of postage for mailing of the bimonthly BrightSide newsletter. Funds have been included in the proposed budget for 2015/2016 in Account No. 110-4417-414-3026. Background The BrightSide newsletter is mailed six times a year to approximately 35,000 Palm Desert households and businesses at a current bulk rate of 15.3 cents per piece. The cost for mailing the newsletter is expected to average just under $5,600 per issue based on current U.S. Postal Service rates and past rate increases. The Postal Service typically revises its rates upward each year. These annual increases have historically ranged between .4 cents and .7 cents. The proposed expenditure accounts for a .7 cent increase in the coming fiscal year. Fiscal Analysis Approval of this expenditure will ensure delivery of the City's newsletter. The fiscal impact is $33,600 to the general fund. Funds have been included in the proposed budget for 2015/2016; Account No. 110-4417-414-3026.
