California State College at San Bernardino to provide educational opportunities for the growing population
of the Inland Empire of California; and
Whereas, the college opened in the fall of 1965 with 293 students, including 90 freshmen, and a
faculty and staff of 93; and
Whereas, from these modest beginnings CSUSB has matured into a comprehensive university,
offering highly -respected bachelor's, master's and doctoral academic programs in five colleges to more
than 20,000 students annually; and
Whereas, CSUSB has had a significant economic, technological, social and environmental impact on
the Inland Empire, producing more than 80,000 alumni during its first half -century; and
Whereas, CSUSB established a branch campus three decades ago in Palm Desert, leading to the
establishment of the Palm Desert Campus as the Coachella Valley's only four-year public educational
institution; and
Whereas, CSUSB is an active partner with educational institutions, industries, and communities to
enhance the quality of education, research, development, and community service for the Inland Empire,
the Coachella Valley, and the State of California.
Therefore, I, Susan Marie Weber, Mayor of the City of Palm Desert, California, Along With the
Entire City Council, Do Hereby Proclaim September 21, 2015, as the
50th Anniversary of
California State University San Bernardino
in the City of Palm Desert, with recognition of its commitment to public higher education.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and
have caused the Official Seal of the City of Palm
Desert, California, to be affixed this 10th day of
September, 2015.
