ADMINISTRATIVE CONFERENCE ROOM 73-510 FRED WARING DRIVE, PALM DESERT, CA 92260 CALL TO ORDER Chair Zannie Murphy convened the meeting at 6:00 p.m. II. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None IV. PRESENTATIONS Mayor Weber presented the seniors with a certificate and plaque from the City to thank them for their service. Mayor Weber and Council Member Harnik encouraged the seniors to stay in touch and reach out to the City if there is anything the City can help them with. V. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A. MINUTES of the April 6, 2015, Palm Desert Youth Committee meeting Upon motion by Member M. Dan, second by Member Bloch, and a 9-0-3-3 vote of the Youth Committee (AYES: Bloch, Chaplin, Chen, M. Dan, P. Dan, Hutchinson, Kozlak, Murphy, and Schmidman; NOES: None; ABSTENTIONS: Goldstone, D. Sandoval-Heglund and S. Sandoval-Heglund; ABSENT: Kim, Olson, Seiberg), the April 4, 2015, Minutes were approved as presented. VI. NEW BUSINESS A. BRAINSTORM activities for 2015/16 school year Alternate Sanford suggested that the Citizens' Sustainability Committee address water related issues. Member Hutchinson suggested that the Committee get involved in volunteering for more activities that are fitness related. For example, Walk-a-Thons and 5Ks. He also suggested a carnival themed fundraiser. Member Bloch suggested creating a food festival with local food vendors and music. VII. OLD BUSINESS None Vill. CONTINUED BUSINESS None 2 MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE IX. REPORTS AND REMARKS A. COUNCIL MEMBERS MAY 4, 2015 Council Member Harnik informed the Committee that the plastic bag ordinance became effective on April 1, 2015, and informed them that one Council Member has asked that the ordinance be reviewed again. She also thanked them for their help with the Senior Inspiration Awards. B. STAFF Appointments for of 2015/2016 school year Not discussed. C. COMMITTEE MEMBERS 1. Events Not discussed 2. Projects Veterans History Project Not discussed 3. Youth Committee Subcommittee Updates a. Anti -bullying Subcommittee The sub -committee will work on a Frequently Asked Questions document for distribution. b. Legislative Review Committee Member S. Sandoval-Heglund and Alternate Sanford are interested in being appointed in September. One new liaison is needed. c. Citizens' Sustainability Committee Member P. Dan and Alternate Sanford are interested in being appointed in September. One new liaison is needed. 3 MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE MAY 4, 2015 d. Palm Desert Sister Cities Foundation Member P. Dan will replace Member Murphy next year on this committee. X.
