HomeMy WebLinkAboutPrsntatn - M.McLaughlin Cherland DayWhereas, Michelle McLaughlin Cherland, mother of two sons and five stepdaughters and Palm Desert resident, is a kindergarten teacher at Carrillo Ranch Elementary School in Indio, who in June was selected as Riverside County Teacher of the Year. On October 27th she was announced as one of five 2016 California State Teachers of the Year; and Whereas, Michelle served three tours of duty in the Middle East between 2003 and 2013. She tries to impress in the classroom the military values she learned: loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage; and Whereas, Michelle makes sure that every child feels loved when they come to class and when they are ready to leave for home. She wants to give them everything she has, not just a little bit, but everything, and to have a day full of laughter and love; and Whereas, Michelle has taught our children for 14 years. Every day she inspires her students to learn, excel and realize their full potential, and watches them blossom into upstanding citizens in the country that she had the honor to fight for; and Whereas, Michelle Cherland will be recognized by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson during a ceremony in February. Now, Therefore, I, Susan Marie Weber, Mayor of the City of Palm Desert, Along With the Entire City Council, Do Hereby Proclaim Thursday, November 12, 2015, as Michelle McLaughlin Cherland Day in the City of Palm Desert and urge all residents to join me in extending our congratulations and appreciation for her dedicated service to our community. In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and have caused the Official Seal of the City of Palm Desert, California, to be affixed this 12th day of November, 2015.
