CALL TO ORDER Chair Cory Hutchinson convened the meeting at 6:00 p.m. II. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE IV. PRESENTATIONS A. Palm Desert Student Art and Essay Contest Theme SEPTEMBER 1, 2015 Debbie Thompson, Public Art Technician, asked the Youth Committee to consider potential themes for the Art and Essay Contest. V. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A. MINUTES of the September 1, 2015, Palm Desert Youth Committee meeting Upon a motion by Member Chaplin, second by Member Seiberg, and an 11-0-3 vote of the Youth Committee (AYES: Brossfield, Chaplin, Dan, Goldstone, Hutchinson, Kim, Olson, Schmidman, Seiberg, Shaw, and Wood; NOES: None; ABSTENTIONS: None; ABSENT: Ahmad, Sandoval-Heglund and Schmidman), the September 1, 2015, Minutes were approved as presented. VI. NEW BUSINESS A. SUSTAINABILITY PROJECTS The Youth Committee discussed three sustainability ideas: Movie Series — no interest Art Contest — could be a part of the Local Arts Showcase Book and Clothes Swap — could be used as a fundraiser B. APPOINTMENT of Chair Hutchinson to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and provide an update on Youth Committee activities at the October 22, 2015, City Council Meeting. Upon consensus of the Committee, Chair Hutchinson was appointed to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and provide an update on Youth Committee activities at the October 22, 2015, City Council Meeting. COUNCIL MEMBERS Council Member Harnik presented a report about the Greenhouse Gases Reduction results that were presented to City Council. B. STAFF None C. COMMITTEE MEMBERS 1. Events An overview of the following events was presented: Relay For Life — October 3, 2015 Y Be Fit — October 4, 2015 Sustainability/Halloween Party at Lincoln Elementary — October 15, 2015 Golf Cart Parade — October 25, 2016 — sign-up sheet was circulated Youth Committee Potential Projects/Events for 2015-2016 School Year Sustainability Book and Clothes Swap Event — as a fundraiser Annual Events Wreath Lighting — December 4, 2015 Lincoln Afterschool Program Holiday Party Youth/Senior Technology Event Senior Inspiration Awards Palm Desert Charter Middle School Afterschool Program Presentation Lincoln School Anti -Bullying Presentation Local Arts Showcase — Chair Hutchinson is developing this event 2. Anti -bullying Subcommittee SEPTEMBER 1, 2015 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) - A sub -committee sign- up sheet was circulated for membership. FAQs will be addressed at a future sub -committee meeting. b. Legislative Review Committee A short meeting was held but no report c. Citizens' Sustainability Committee No Update d. Palm Desert Sister Cities Foundation No Update e. Local Arts Showcase Chair Hutchinson is developing this event. f. Other Committee/Commission Reports No Update X.
