Subject: Business Plan for Bermuda Dunes Learning Center in Palm Desert.
Business Description
Bermuda Dunes Learning Center (BDLC) is a quality early childhood program located in
Bermuda Dunes. BDLC was founded by Gayle and Reggie Clark in 1993, both former
teachers in PSUSD and DSUSD. BDLC is the only private center accredited by the
National Association (NAEYC) of Young Children in the Coachella Valley. Gayle is an
advocate for young children serving on the Consortium for Early Learning Services of
Riverside County and the Riverside County Local Childcare Planning Council, an
advisor for College of the Desert (COD) early childhood program, as well as a Mentor
Director for the State of California. She has mentored directors throughout the
Coachella Valley and the State, assisting directors open new childcare locations, as well
as maintaining existing childcare programs.
BDLC in Palm Desert is scheduled to open in Palm Desert this fall. The new location will
offer childcare for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. In addition to the early childhood
program the center will also offer an after -school program for children in grades TK-5th
attending Washington Charter School (WCS). Transportation will be provided for
children from WCS to new location. The new childcare center will be open year-round.
In the summer, an enrichment program will be offered for elementary age children.
There is a great need for childcare, especially in Palm Desert. Currently there is no
childcare offered at this location.
The vision for the new center in Palm Desert is to provide childcare spaces for the
community as well as provide an intergenerational program. The center
intergenerational program will include adult day care in two of the classrooms for adults
with mild dementia. The adults and children will have time together where they can
interact together both indoors in the classrooms and library, as well as outside in the
garden, courtyard, and playgrounds. Combining daycare for children and elderly people
benefits all generations.
The center will collaborate with Riverside County of Education enrolling children on
financial aid programs, as well as participate in the Quality Start Program for Riverside
County with F5 Riverside. The center will collaborate with students attending College of
the Desert Early Child Development Program. College students can come observe and
participate.
