Subject: Desert Recreation District
In 2008, the Coachella Valley Recreation and Park District (CVRPD) was involved in a
branding project. As a result, the District will begin doing business as the Desert
Recreation District and embarking on a new branding initiative (see attached letter).
Mr. Stan Ford, CVRPD General Manager, and Ms. Tatiana Hinkle, Center Director, will
be present to provide a presentation on the branding initiative.

Dear Carlos,
www.cvrpd,org
You are probably aware the District has been involved in a
branding project during 2008, This was a very exciting and
enlightening undertaking for us.
During this endeavor, we learned that:
• We are highly regarded by our members
• 75% of our members say we have enriched their lives
• We cater to multiple audiences and have a wide variety
of offerings
• We have a very lengthy name
• There are blurred lines between service providers
• We are not receiving credit for all we do because of
confusion about who we are.
The result of this effort is that on January 1, 2009, the District
will begin doing business as the Desert Recreation District and
embarking on our branding initiative. As part of the public
education process, we request an opportunity to meet with your
.governing body and administrative staff to discuss our branding
venture. We believe your agency will play an important role in
helping us brand the Desert Recreation District and aid valley
residents in understanding who we are and our services.
Please ret me know when we can make our presentation or, if
Serving the you need additional information.

From: Jay Niemczak, Parks Facilities Manager
Date: December 16, 2008
Subject: Ironwood Park Playground
On July 19, 2008, Staff published a Request for Proposal (RFP) to replace the
playground equipment at Ironwood Park as part of the City's Parks and Recreation five-
year capital improvement plan for playground upgrade and replacement.
On October 9, 2008, the City Council awarded the Ironwood playground replacement
contract to Innovative Playgrounds Company of Palm Springs, California.
The playground design that is incorporated into Freedom Park is very popular with park
users. Staff felt that a similar design at Ironwood Park would be a success.
Innovative Playgrounds Company will begin demolition of the existing playground the
week of December 29, 2008, and complete the new installation by January 16, 2009.
Attached are pictures of the playground design for Ironwood Park.
