Hi Mr. Ortega:
As I am sure you are aware, it is virtually impossible to book a resident tee time for anything
but a single and hardly ever available before 2pm during the past 2 seasons. As the snowbirds
leave, times are opening up a bit.
Also, the Platinum Card membership, was impossible to book anything during the season for 2
even with 21 day advance notice. Obviously, too many out of town visitors purchased the
Platinum Card. Is there any consideration being given to selling the Platinum Card to only
Palm Desert Residents who pay property tax? Increasing the cost of the card to snowbird
visitors?
I know the folks at DW are thrilled with the dynamic pricing model - very high fees, but some
consideration should be made to residents.
Just curious of your thoughts.
Thanks,
Bill

Hi:
When is the next city council meeting on Desert Willow Golf Course? How much tax
from Palm Desert Residents goes to support Desert Willow.
Thanks,
Bill Hansen

As a citizen of the Coachella Valley, I am really anxious about our future here
in the desert.
The deadline for a long-range plan for the Salton Sea was set by the State
Water Board for December 31, 2022. California is on the verge of spending
$37 billion to lower greenhouse gas emissions by reducing the use of fossil
fuels in transportation, electricity generation, and in our homes and buildings.
But many of the proposed long-range plans for the Salton Sea will cause large
emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) in the form of carbon dioxide and
methane. Shallow water bodies aren’t great at sequestering carbon, and emit
lots of GHG – and the long-term plans being considered largely consist of
shallow water habitats.
On the other hand, ocean water importation to refill the sea, restore the
ecosystem, and keep the carbon-rich lakebed fully submerged is likely the only
restoration method that will not cause a major increase in carbon emissions,
and will support California's plan to reach net carbon neutrality. A Salton Sea
refilled to 1990’s capacity would act as a gigantic carbon sink, sequestering
huge amounts of GHG pollution. It doesn't make sense to choose a long-term
plan for the Salton Sea without taking GHG emissions into account. We must
take action now to require the Sea’s governing bodies to include GHG
emissions in their calculations.
This is why I am asking all of you on the city council to pass a new resolution
on the long term plans for the Salton Sea. We need to require that the Ocean
Water Importation Independent Review Panel will prioritize greenhouse gas
emissions as an important criterion, when conducting the comprehensive
analysis of ocean water import requested in previous resolutions. Greenhouse
gases are emitted from both shallow water bodies and from dry playa, as well
as from construction to create new furrows and berms and other mitigation
infrastructure. All of these emissions should be calculated and balanced against

the much lower emissions that would result from importing ocean water to
cover the Sea.
We need a solution that will restore a productive Salton Sea ecosystem, protect
the public health, and provide water for future beneficial uses in the east
Valley, but we need to do it without increasing the release of greenhouse
gases.
Please read the resolution carefully and pass it as soon as possible. There is no
time to lose.
