HomeMy WebLinkAbout2C Supplemental - Public CommentJune 6, 2022ꢀ Council Meeting 6-9-22ꢀ Action Calendar C.ꢀ Reference 2C Agreement with KSM to manage DWGR operationsꢀ Concerns with contact to be approved:ꢀ KSM is guarantee large bonuses on top of one of the highest fixed management fees in the Coachella Valley.ꢀ Any bonus paid should reward the overall successful management of Palm Desert’s Municipal Golf Resort and that includes protecting Palm Desert Citizen’s privileges defined in the Desert Willow Golf Resort and Resident Card document approved by the City Council and displayed on Palm Desert’s website. It reads: “ In 1997 the City of Palm Desert opened Desert Willow golf Resort in an effort to increase tourism and revenue to the City. However, as a municipal golf course, the City felt that residents should have the opportunity to enjoy Desert Willow’s amenities at a reduced rate”. Today, residents are severely restricted access in season due to a City mandate incorporated years ago limiting resident access to a 3-day reservation period while visitors are allowed 21-days and more. ꢀ Before the high demand for golf was experienced in 2018-2109 here in the CV and now again in 2022, resident’s percentage of total tee times was 25% in peak season. Today it is only 11%, due to high demand and visitor’s right to book a tee time three weeks before residents are allowed. March 2022 reported resident’s lost 56% of their tee times since 2014.ꢀ Any new contract should include the requirement to protect 30% of the morning tee times for Palm Desert’s Citizens as a condition of any bonuses paid. Also ALL Palm Desert citizens should receive reduced rates at all Desert Willow’s amenities as initially intended including: golf dining, pro-shop, range and academy.ꢀ Sincerely,ꢀ Tom Waltonꢀ 72720 Yucca Ct.ꢀ Palm Desert, CA 92260ꢀ
