MINUTES ARCHITECTURAL COMMISSION FEBRUARY 11, 1986 elevation drawing. Commission Holden requested that he see what is on either side of the awning. Moved by Commissioner Holden, seconded by Commissioner Cook to continue this case until the next meeting. Carried 5-0 5. MOBIL OIL STATION Applicant was requesting approval of signage to be on one side of a canopy. Commissioner Cook suggested that the applicant put signs on both sides of the canopy for better visibility. He asked that staff make sure that this was allowed by code. Moved by Commissioner Cook, seconded by Commissioner Martin to approve two signs if allowed by code. Carried 4-0-1 (Chairman Gregory abstaining). 6. FRED WARING PROFESSIONAL BUILDING - SIGN Mr. Martin submitted samples of the letters color and sizes. The letters will be painted a maroon color and the letters will be 12" and 8" high. Moved by Commissioner Cook, seconded by Commissioner Holden to approve the sign as submitted. Carried 4-0-1 (Commissioner Martin abstaining). 7. VALLEY CHRISTIAN ASSEMBLY Plans for preliminary approval of an additional were submitted. Commission had no concerns with the proposal. Moved by Commissioner Holden, seconded by Commissioner Cook to grant preliminary approval. Carried 5-0 B. As was requested in the preliminary approval, applicant has supplied details of the fascia modifications. The roof line has been modified to better blend the addition with existing buildings. Chairman Gregory indicated that the bright colors would be acceptable to him if they were used in a small quantity. He suggested changing the red to rust and the white to ivory. Jamie White, applicant, stated that she had seen alot of bright colored awnings on El Paseo. She questioned the difference between the colors of signs and awnings. Commissioner Holden moved to deny, Commissioner Cook seconded. Commissioner Cook noted that the commission had requested color photos of a similar sign for review, which the applicant did not supply. He also indicated that the original signs were not corporate colors. Ms. White indicated that she would be willing to work with the colors so that the sign could be approved at this meeting. The prior motion and second to deny were withdrawn and a new motion made. It was moved by Commissioner Cook, seconded by Commissioner Holden to approve this case subject to the following condition. 1. That the white be changed to ivory, the red be changed to rust #2346 and the blue be changed to dark brown #2418. The commission was concerned with the roof mounted equipment not being adequately screened and the building appearing choppy. Commissioner Leung felt the overall building needed to be restudied and made into a full mass. Commissioner Cook indicated that the proposed materials do not improve the appearance of the building as they should. It was moved by Commissioner Holden, seconded by Commissioner Cook to return this case to the applicant for restudy of mass forms and material selection. Carried 4-0 2. MINUTES ARCHITECTURAL COMMISSION MAY 28, 1985 LOCATION: 73-979 Fred Waring Drive Commissioner Gregory indicated that he would like to see additional landscaping in the parking area and around the building. Commissioner Holden indicated that the parking would need to be screened with shrubs or a wall 42 or 36" high. The commission requested details of the fascia and roof materials to be used. This information will be required on the working drawings. It was moved by Commissioner Leung, seconded by Commissioner Holden to grant preliminary approval subject to the following conditions: 1. Additional landscaping material to be used .in parking area and around exterior of building and on streets. 2. Complete renovation of exterior structure. Carried 4-0 IV. DISCUSSION ITEMS: None V. LOCATION: 73-979 Fred Waring Drive, southwest corner of Fred Waring and Portola. DISCUSSION: The church received a conditional use permit October 30, 1984. A condition of approval was that the building be remodeled and the parking lot fully developed. The site plan substantially conforms to the planning commission approval. The parking lot conforms to adopted design standards. The remodel will add a 1640 square foot assembly hall and attempt to convert the appearance of what was previously a residential triplex to a church.
