ZOOM MEETING ___________________________________________________________________________ I. CALL TO ORDER Chairman Klein called the meeting to order at 8:12 am. II. ROLL CALL Present: Sonia Campbell Dennis Flaig-Moore David Fletcher Elyssa Goldberg Patrick Klein Christine Stein Susan Stauber City of Palm Desert Staff Present: Thomas Soule, Tourism and Marketing Manager Vanessa Mager, Management Analyst, Economic Development Deborah Schwartz Glickman, Business Advocate Also Present: Councilmember Jan Harnik, City of Palm Desert Jim Doyle, Palm Spring Life Amy Smith, Chartwell Properties Stephanie Greene, FG Creative Dawn McCoy, Dawn McCoy Media Lisa Barbato, FG Creative Frank Jones, Palm Springs Life Michael Matthews, Palm Springs Life Paulina Larson, Palm Springs Life Sat, Coventure Co-working Lisa Dempton, A Gallery Fine Art III. CONSENT ITEMS A. Approval of the Minutes of the El Paseo Parking & Business Page 1 of 4 Improvement District Meeting of May 21, 2020. Rec: Approved Mr. Klein asked for a motion to approve the Minutes from the May 21, 2020 Board Meeting. A motion was made by Campbell and seconded by Flaig-Moore to accept and approve. Motion passed with a 7-0-0 vote; with Stein, Goldberg, Klein, Campbell, Flaig-Moore, Fletcher and Stauber voting in favor; none against; none absent. B. Approval of the Financial Statements ending May 31, 2020. Rec: Approved Mr. Klein asked for a motion to approve the Financial Statements ending May 31, 2020. A motion was made by Campbell and seconded by Stein to accept and approve. Motion passed with a 7-0-0 vote; Stein, Goldberg, Klein, Campbell, Flaig-Moore, Fletcher and Stauber voting in favor; none against; none absent. IV. PARTNER UPDATES A. Paint El Paseo Pink Update. Presented by Elyssa Goldberg, Chairwoman of the 2020 Paint El Paseo Pink (PEPP). Ms. Goldberg announced that organizers of PEPP are looking at several ways to host the annual event, as they are aware that a traditional walk might not be possible and/or well attended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 2020 PEPP is scheduled for Saturday, October 10. B. Palm Springs Life Update. Presented by Jim Doyle, PSL. Mr. Doyle presented the monthly report with content regarding, the Website, Social and Print. Two new initiatives include the Getaway Guide, which replaces the Summer Chill Guide, and the Welcome Home Package program, which provides copies of Palm Springs Life to purchasers of high- end homes. V. NEW BUSINESS A. FG Creative – May Marketing and Instagram Reports. Presented by Stephanie Greene Ms. Greene stated that the May Marketing report will be sent to the Board after today’s meeting. Page 2 of 4 B. Update on marketing plan FY 19/20 No update given. C. El Paseo Reopening Forum; presented by Stephanie Greene and Christine Stein. Ms. Greene stated that the weekly forums have been hosted by Ms. Stein and have an average attendance of 45 attendees. Next week will be the last weekly meeting, as they will be transitioning to bi-monthly. Meetings will be shifting from reopening to specific topics that would be beneficial to the merchants. D. Event Sub-Committee; presented by Thomas Soule Mr. Soule recommended that an event sub-committee of Board members and merchants be created to start thinking about event ideas that would bring the community to the street. Stauber, Fletcher and Goldberg volunteered to be members of that committee, with councilmember Harnik also volunteering to join this Ad-hoc committee. E. FY 20/21 Budget Discussion; presented by Stephanie Greene Ms. Greene presented the proposed FY 20/21 budget (presentation attached). Discussion ensued and a follow-up meeting was set for Tuesday, June 30 at 9am. VI. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None VII. REMARKS A. City of Palm Desert. Councilmember Jan Harnik, City of Palm Desert – Councilmember Harnik stated that Council is receiving lots of questions and concerns with regards to the state guidelines on a regular basis. Councilmember Harnik also asked to hear from the merchants on how business is currently going. B. Board Members. Patrick Klein, The Gardens on El Paseo – Is expecting all stores to re- open for business. He affirmed that luxury store are doing well, adding that restaurants seem to be facing the greatest challenge, after starting off strong but currently struggling to find a steady wave of customers. Page 3 of 4 David Fletcher, Chartwell Properties – Stated that Chartwell is working with all stores to re-open. There have been two closures and one new lease out for signature. Dennis Flaig-Moore, Saks Fifth Avenue – Mr. Moore stated that business is going well. Mr. Moore stated that employees would like to see the Council and City make masks mandatory, as to assist with making frontline workers feel more secure. Susan Stauber, Grayse– Store has exceeded YOY numbers from June. Christine Stein, Leeds and Son – Ms. Stein is finding higher traffic counts than in previous years. They are also seeing luxury pieces moving quicker, which is different from years past. Sonia Campbell, Spectacular Shades – Ms. Campbell has seen strong sales in June. VIII. NEXT MEETING: Board Members confirmed Tuesday, June 30, 2020 for a budget meeting and July 16, 2020 for the regularly scheduled Board meeting. IX. ADJOURNMENT With board member concurrence, the meeting was adjourned at 10:20 am. Page 4 of 4
