VII. REMARKS
A. City Council Liaison
Councilmember Gina Nestande - State of the City was held on March 30, 2022.
City is planning for future expansion. Top project is the DSRT Surf Resort. The
City currently has a sub -committee looking into a Palm Desert Visitors Center
along San Pablo just north of Fred Warning. The city wants it to be a destination
to go visit to learn more about Palm Desert. City is working on an outdoor project
on Lupine Plaza that will create an upscale outdoor dining area. City Hall is under
construction, project is anticipated to be completed end of June 2022 to July 2022.
B. Chair
Rolf Hoehn, Indian Wells Tennis Garden — BNP Paribas Open took place Mar 8 —
Mar 20, 2022, a major success with 60% more attendance than in October. 2022
Easter Bowl Junior Championships took place after the BNP on March 26 — April 2,

2022. It was very well attended, and the competition was amazing. Now we are
focusing on 2023 preparing and planning.
C. Committee Members
Erin Scott, The Living Desert — Attendance has been strong, seeing record numbers.
Annual gala was held on March 4, 2022, raising 1.4 million, breaking records. The
highest bid was for the naming of the newborn baby giraffe, her name is Cole. Glow
in the Park is happening nightly from March 27 — April 29, 2022 from 6:30pm-10pm.
May 7, 2022 is Brew in the Zoo, an all -new brew for 2022. A new staff facility is in
the works if approved parking is expected to expand. They would tear down existing
staff facility to make room for more parking.
Jeffrey Norman, McCallum — The theater is coming to the end of a successful
season. They held two major receptions for founders and announced 22-23 season.
With help from the City they will be holding the annual Open Call performance on
April 16. Thanks to the City and the Gardens on El Paseo they had 29 children from
the East Valley participate in a dance project. These children were paired with
professional dance company Back House Dance. They gave an extraordinary
performance. McCallum is expected to have 7 Broadway shows and over two dozen
performance that have never been to the McCallum before in the 22-23 season.
Brian Simpson, Desert Willow — Revenues are going strong, the demand for
weddings is up. Easter is sold out; Mother's Day brunch will go on sale soon. The
Shoopy Scramble is on its 10th year. This event gives back to the local communities
and so far in the past 9 years has raised over a quarter of a million dollars for the
Eisenhower Lucy Burci Cancer Center.
Ray Rodriguez, Casuelas Cafe — Thankful for the City staff, council members, for
their leadership and support they offered to the businesses during the past two
years. He is forever grateful for that support and understanding. Regarding labor,
everyone is running short. Sales are up, profit margins depend on who you talk to.
D. Staff
Thomas Soule, Public Affairs Manager — Great event news Fashion Week and Food &
Wine was a success with most nights sold out.
Skky Garcia, Public Affairs Office Specialist — Reminder Ethics training is due for all
members.
Vanessa Mager, Public Affairs Management Analyst — Reminder Form 700A is due, will
reach out to the two remaining members.
