MINUTES
TUESDAY, June 8, 2021 — 3:00 P.M.
ZOOM MEETING
I. CALL TO ORDER
Rolf Hoehn called the meeting to order at 3:03 p.m.

III. CONSENT ITEMS
A. Approval of the Minutes of the Marketing Committee meeting of
February 2, 2021.
Rec: Approved
Mr. Hoehn asked for a motion to approve the minutes. A motion was
made by Mr. Rodriquez and seconded by Mr. Norman to accept and
approve. Motion passed with a 6-0-1 vote; with Hoehn, Scott,
Simpson, Norman, Rodriguez and Hulahan voting in favor. None
abstained, Forrer absent.
IV. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
None
V. NEW BUSINESS
A. Spring/Summer Healing Heroes Campaign Update
Ms. Martin, Mr. Cohen and Ms. Pincoffs presented the updated the
committee on the Healing Heroes Campaign. Video presentation had audio
issues, so a link will be sent to the committee and the City for folks to watch
at their leisure.

B. FY 21/22 Marketing Outlook
Ms. Martin, Ms. Pincoffs and Ms. Foertsch presented the update.

VIII. REPORTS FROM CITY COUNCIL LIAISONS
A. City Council.
Mayor Pro Tem Harnik introduced the new City Manager, Todd Hileman
to the committee.
Councilmember Nestande updated the committee on the dining deck
permitting processes that is being reviewed by Staff to include
requirements to current decks in order to bring them to safety standards
as well as enhance the visual appeal. Councilmember Nestande also

shared that the Council is currently interviewing residents for open
committee and commission seats.
IX. REPORTS AND REMARKS
A. Chair.
Rolf Hoehn, Indian Wells Tennis Garden — Mr. Hoehn thanked the City
Council for their support of the new arena being built on the North side of the
1-10. Mr. Hoehn updated the committee members on future events at the
Tennis Gardens. The gardens have secured the BNP for October 2021, but
noted that they are still awaiting exact dates. Two options are being
considered one would be a two -week tournament and would happen in the
first half of October and the other would be an eight -day tournament and
would happen in the second half of October. Dates should be confirmed
soon. The World Team Tennis event will be taking place November 13th —
29thThe lronman Triathlon will be held on December 5th and will be followed
by the re -scheduled Pickleball Tournament, Dec. 6th — 14th Lastly the BNP
will be back again in March, as traditionally played.
Committee Members.
Brian Simpson, Desert Willow Golf Resort — Mr. Simpson noted that April
and May were record breaking months for the golf resort and June looks to
be just as busy. Banquet inquiries are up and the Fall outlook is positive.
Jan Hulahan, The Marriott Desert Springs — Ms. Hulahan shared the group
business is coming back early than anticipated. The JW was able to move a
few million to the Fall forecast, so things look positive at this point. Mikados
is set to open June 24th as well as a few other amenities at the hotel. Lastly,
May's rate was up about $75 from 2019.
Ray Rodriguez, Casuelas Cafe — Mr. Rodriguez noted that March, April and
May were the best business ever for Casuelas Cafe, but that Corktree (white
table cloth) was struggling a bit. Mr. Rodriguez also mentioned that he will be
hosting an event on June 16th, which will include live music from across the
region.
