I. CALL TO ORDER
Committee Chair Lily Kim convened the meeting at 6:03 p.m.

Ill. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
Ms. Glickman introduced Ms. Amy Lawrence as the new Youth Committee
Advisor. Ms. Lawrence indicated that she previously served as advisor to the Youth
Committee from 2010 to 2014 and looks forward to working with the group again.
She noted that the Palm Desert Police Department has expressed an interest in

( working with the Committee on a project and said she would schedule someone
to attend an upcoming meeting to discuss.

V. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A. MINUTES of the October 8, 2018, Palm Desert Youth Committee meeting
Upon a motion by Member Ahmad, second by Member Shaw, and a 9-6 vote of
the Youth Committee, (AYES: Ahmad, Berenbaum, Driza, Fitzpatrick, Haile, Kim, Kulas,
Ross, and Shaw; NOES: None; ABSTENTIONS: None; ABSENT: Capobianco, Cho,
Dewegeli, Duckworth, Murphy, and Scibona), the October 8, 2018, Minutes were
approved as presented.
VI. NEW BUSINESS
A. Pledge at the City Council Meeting on November 15, 2018
Ms. Lawrence noted that according to Palm Desert City Clerk, Rachelle Klassen, ( a Youth Committee member was no longer needed to lead the Pledge of Allegiance at the November 15, 2018 City Council Meeting. As such, by consensus of the Committee,
this item was removed from the agenda.

IX. REPORTS AND REMARKS
A. COUNCIL MEMBERS
On behalf of the Palm Desert City Council, Councilmember Harnik thanked
the Youth Committee members for their contributions to the community and
provided those present with a gift card in recognition for their service during
the year.

B. STAFF
Ms. Lawrence reminded members to turn in their attendance sheets for
volunteer hours.
Ms. Lawrence passed along appreciation from Mr. Rob Ballew, with the
Family YMCA of the Desert, to those members that participated with the Golf
Cart Parade.
Ms. Lawrence circulated a sign-up sheet for the City's Celebrate the Season
event scheduled for Friday, December 7, 2018, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the
Gardens on El Paseo. Members present will assist children with decorating
cookies and monitor the line for photos with Santa Claus.
C. COMMITTEE MEMBERS
1. Events
a. Youth Senior Technology Workshops
Members agreed that they would like to see this take place at the ( Joslyn Center quarterly on either a Tuesday or Wednesday at 3:30
p.m. Ms. Lawrence said that she would follow-up on this at the next
meeting.
b. Anti-bullying Workshop in Schools
Councilmember Harnik and Ms. Glickman offered some great
references for future workshops.
c. Youth Committee Presentation - Palm Desert Charter Middle
School
It was noted that this would be an end of the school year
recruitment scheduled for the end of the year.
d. Lincoln Elementary School Holiday Party
Members agreed to hold the party on Tuesday, December 18, and
Ms. Lawrence noted she would reach out to the school to confirm.

C 2. Projects and Sub-Committee Updates
a. No-Idle Zone for Cleaner Air For Schools
Ms. Glickman stated that the air quality
monitor is still not working. She
suggested that it be checked or possibly
moved to a different location.
b. Anti-bullying Subcommittee None
c. Palm Desert Sister Cities Foundation
Member Kulas noted that she would attend the next
meeting.
d. Legislative Review Committee None
IV. ADJOURNMENT
( Upon consensus of the Committee, Chair Kim adjourned the meeting at
6:34 p.m.
